Today marks one of the biggest shifts in Microsoft’s productivity and security stack since the launch of Microsoft 365 E5 back in 2015.
Microsoft has officially unveiled Microsoft 365 E7: The Frontier Suite, a new top‑tier offering designed for organisations that are ready to operationalise AI across their entire digital estate – not just experiment with it.
For months, the industry has been buzzing with rumours about a new top‑tier Microsoft 365 SKU. Analysts speculated, MVPs and Licensing experts whispered, and Partners tried to read between the lines of Microsoft’s rapid AI roadmap.
Today, those rumours finally crystallised into reality.
This new, AI‑native offering designed for organisations that are ready to operationalise intelligence across their entire digital estate, not just experiment with it. It comes with a hefty price tag to match.
Why Have Microsoft created an E7 Suite
E5 was built for the cloud era, E7 is built for the agentic AI era.
Microsoft’s framing is clear: “Frontier transformation only happens when both sides of the system move together”. This is about People and AI. Users and agents. Productivity, Security and Governance.
E7 is built to close that gap – It aligns people + AI under one licensing umbrella – No more stitching together Copilot, identity, security, and agentic tools. E7 is the first SKU designed for the agentic enterprise.
What is in Microsoft 365 E7?
E7 is built on two pillars:
1. Intelligence that understands real work
Since (in Microsoft 365) Copilot and agents now share context, history, priorities, and constraints across the Microsoft 365 estate. This goes waaaaaaay beyond using Copilot for things like “generate a document” or “summarise my last 10 emails from….”. This is about AI that understands how your organisation works with what Microsoft call Work IQ
Wave 3 of Microsoft 365 Copilot brings deeper agentic capabilities across Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Loop, and Outlook, including the ability to build and run your own agents directly inside the apps people already use.
Microsoft has invested over $100 billion in the past year alone in AI‑ready infrastructure – and E7 is how that investment becomes enterprise‑consumable rather than simple bolt-ons and how it goes beyond the “model”.
2. Trust that is enforced, not assumed
E7 includes the full Microsoft Entra Suite, advanced Defender, Intune, and Purview – giving IT and security leaders the observability, identity controls, and governance needed to run AI responsibly at scale. This is critical. AI can’t scale if security teams can’t see, manage, and secure what agents are doing.

Wave 3 (as they call it) of Microsoft 365 Copilot is bringing deeper agentic capabilities across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Users can now build and run their own agents directly inside the apps they already use.
Trust that is enforced, not assumed
Microsoft 365 E7 includes the full Microsoft Entra Suite, advanced Defender, Intune, and Purview and Agent 365. This gives IT and security leaders the observability, identity controls, and governance needed to run AI responsibly at scale. Looking at the number of add-on, as well as extensive research and consultation with Global organisations licensing providers and analysts, Microsoft say that this has been the missing piece for many organisations. Now it’s built in by default.
What’s Inside Microsoft 365 E7?
Microsoft has bundled its most advanced AI, identity, and security capabilities into a single SKU:
| Component | What It Delivers |
|---|---|
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | AI across email, documents, meetings, spreadsheets, and more |
| Agent 365 | A unified control plane for managing and securing AI agents |
| Microsoft Entra Suite | Identity, access, and trust fabric for agentic operations |
| Microsoft 365 E5 | Full productivity, collaboration, analytics, and security baseline |
| Advanced Defender, Intune, Purview | Comprehensive protection across users, devices, data, and agents |
This is the first time Microsoft has packaged all of these into one integrated suite.
Pricing and Availability
- Available: May 1, 2026
- Price: $99 per user per month (regional pricing will apply)
Is Microsoft 365 E7 good value for money?
This is subjective based on where you are today and how AI enabled you are as an organisation.
If you are all in with the Microsoft eco system and are bought in and investing in AI, then when you add up the individual components – M365 Copilot, Entra, Agent 365, and the wider E5 security stack – E7 comes in significantly cheaper than buying them separately.
This aligns with what many licensing specialists predicted during the rumour cycle. E7 is the first SKU designed for the agentic AI era.
E7 is designed for organisations that want AI embedded into every workflow, every role, and every business process – safely, securely, and at scale.
The Agentic Era Becomes Real
One of the most significant parts of today’s announcement is the expansion of agentic workflows across the portfolio:
Copilot Cowork
A new agent capable of running long‑term, multi‑step processes across apps and data. It can prepare meetings, orchestrate documents, manage communications, and more.
Model Diversity
Copilot now leverages leading models from OpenAI and Anthropic, including Claude for reasoning‑heavy tasks. This is a deliberate move away from single‑model dependency. This is about model choice whilst Microsoft focusses on helping their customers with simplicity, responsible AI, security, governance compliance and Work IQ.
Work IQ
This (see wider post) is Microsoft’s organisational intelligence layer that understands how people work, who they work with, and the content they collaborate on. It is this that enables Copilot to feel “aware” rather than simply generative.
