Microsoft adds GPT-5.5 support to Copilot

Microsoft is rolling out the integration of GPT-5.5 into its Copilot ecosystem, enhancing reasoning and multi-step task execution across GitHub, Microsoft 365, and Azure Foundry. This latest model from OpenAI (which runs inside Azure), aims to reduce workflow friction, improve accuracy, and allow greater user control through model selection and custom AI agents.

“The gains (in GPT5.5) are especially strong in agentic coding, computer use, knowledge work, and early scientific research – areas where progress depends on reasoning across context and taking action over time”

As with any of the new models introduced, users can choose and select models tailored to task complexity, from quick brainstorming to advanced problem-solving, and create custom AI agents for integrated workflows. The automode. Continues to select the most appropriate model for the users request.

“With deeper reasoning, stronger multistep execution, and better performance across long, complex tasks, GPT-5.5 helps you go from idea to execution faster with fewer iterations to get to the right outcome”

Industry experts and analysts continue to stress that AI effectiveness depends on robust data governance to ensure consistent, trustworthy outputs. Capgemini research shows that fewer than 20% of enterprises have achieved / claim to have “high data maturity” , meaning most are deploying AI on inconsistent or ungoverned data.

I (personally) see this with many of the customers I work with and while most have a “plan” to address and improve this, the fact is many are not ready (or at least optimised) and many don’t have controls in place to determine what AI tools are allowed and what are “blocked” within their business. Without clear rules on approved tools, data handling, and accountability, organisations risk amplifying errors and poor or below expectation responses due to data not being optimised for enterprise searches and AI.
