As part of Microsoft’s multi-modal and model choice approach, Claude’s Opus model are now rolling out in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat starting with organisations enrolled in the frontier (preview) ring of M365 Copilot. This also means Copilot Chat with Claude van leverage WorkIQ so can do things like “summarise all emails from by boss this week”
This marks the first Anthropic model that end users can explicitly choose inside the core chat experience, giving organisations more flexibility in how Copilot reasons and responds.
Note: Your organisation must have approved the use of Anthropic models inside M365 Copilot for this to be available to users. This is because Anthropic models are "currently" hosted outside Microsoft‑managed environments and follow Anthropic’s terms.

Microsoft describes Opus 4.7 as faster, more precise, and better at multi‑step reasoning – with improved tool selection and higher‑resolution image understanding. It comes on the same day that ChatGPT 5.5 also rolls out for M365 Chat users
Why Claude Opus Matters in Copilot
Claude Opus is Anthropic’s flagship reasoning model. making this available to users directly Inside Microsoft 365 Copilot brings:
- Improved multi‑step reasoning for analysis, planning, and structured tasks
- Better instruction‑following and “self‑checking” behaviour
- Higher‑resolution image interpretation for more accurate context extraction
- More model choice for organisations that want alternatives to OpenAI models
- Helps protect organisation data thanks to Microsoft Enterprise Data Protection meaning another reason for users to “not bring their own AI”.
This aligns with Microsoft’s broader strategy: Copilot is becoming a model‑agnostic orchestration layer, not a single‑model assistant.
