Microsoft is beginning the rollout of Its Unified Copilot App – A Single AI Experience Across Every Platform that will brings all Copilot experiences together including chat, agents, Cowork etc. As part of this, consumer and work interfaces are also being unified along with a new / refined logo and branding!!
The update merges the consumer Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences into a single app simply called Copilot, designed to work consistently across Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and the web.
The unified experience should make it easier for people to move between using Copilot as an AI assistant for personal use and using Copilot for work-based tasks. For many, not much will change. In the unified app, Copilot experiences will simply appear as “Copilot” across both experiences with indicators of if you are using a personal or work experience.
In short, I think this is a good thing and well overdue and having a single Copilot, experience everywhere, with a unified brand, interface, and capability model make sense. Here’s some more detail.
The Unified Copilot App
The new Copilot app is bringing personal Microsoft accounts and work Entra ID accounts together under one interface.
Just like in Microsoft Teams (single app experience), the personal and work / education / commercial accounts will be separated within the app, meaning data from your work or school account won’t be shared with your personal account, and vice versa.
“Work and personal accounts remain separate. Your organization’s security, privacy, compliance, and administrative controls continue to apply when you use Copilot with your work or school account.”
Current Split Experiences

Unified Copilot Experience

Instead of switching between different Copilot app experiences (see above), users will now access all Copilot capabilities through a single unified app that adapts to their identity and context.
Microsoft describes the unified app as “your single destination for Copilot”, signalling its intent to make this the central entry point for AI across devices.
Key changes include:
- One app for all accounts – personal and work
- Consistent experience across Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and web
- Updated Copilot branding and refreshed icon
- Feature consolidation – some legacy features are being retired
- Unified chat interface – as shown in the shared screenshot
The rollout is starting first in the US and on mobile devices first, with a new opt‑in availability appearing on Windows and macOS after which this will just be the defalt experience with the broader worldwide rollout across desktop platforms beginning from September 2026.
What Microsoft Says About the Unified Experience
The Microsoft announcement provides adds several important details that strengthen the overall picture and builds on the vision they showcases for app unifieation earlier this year.
Copilot becomes the central AI hub
Microsoft say that
The unified Copilot app brings together the power of Copilot for Microsoft 365 and Copilot for consumers into one experience.
This confirms the strategic intent behind the merge — one app, one identity, one AI layer which also makes it much easier for user adoption and consistency as well as app and experience roadmap and maintenance.
Copilot Work and personal accounts are now first‑class citizens
Microsoft highlights
“You can sign in with your personal Microsoft account or your work account… Copilot will tailor the experience based on how you sign in.”
This removes the previous split and different user experience between the consumer and “work” experiences and features of Copilot in the consumer space and work context. Work accounts will unlock Microsoft 365 Copilot features. Personal accounts show consumer tools. This removes the previous split experience.
Consistent experience across every platform
Microsoft emphasises that
“The unified Copilot app will be available across Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and the web.”
This aligns with the cross‑platform consistency vision reported by external sources. The unified app will be the primary way users will interact with Copilot across devices, sitting alongside existing entry points such as the Windows taskbar and Edge sidebar.
Capabilities will surface in the Copilot app based on the account you’re signed in with, and licenses assigned (for example Copilot Basic vs Premium).
Some features are being retired
Microsoft confirmed that:
“As part of this consolidation, we are retiring a few features that were available in the previous Copilot apps.”
This is part of the simplification and consolidation effort.
Foundation for Microsoft’s future AI roadmap
Microsoft directly links the rollout to upcoming capabilities stating:
“This unified experience lays the foundation for Copilot Agents, Copilot Extensions, and deeper integration with Microsoft Graph (aka Work IQ)”.
This is the strongest indication yet that the unified app is a platform shift, not just a UI refresh.
As part of this we will see some Copilot experiences retired (mainly across the consumer experiences with features like Copilot Podcasts and Copilot Laps being retired from September.
Will it create confusion. Yes… I expect it will.
Why Microsoft Is Doing This
The Copilot ecosystem has expanded rapidly across Windows, Edge, Microsoft 365, and mobile platforms. The problem is the experiences across consumer and corporate keep drifting further apart, look and behave differently and of course make this frustrating for users and hard for Microsoft to manage these development pipelines. As a result, we are left with a UX fragmentation and confusion for users.
A unified Copilot App solves several problems:
- Simplifies onboarding
- Reduces cognitive load
- Strengthens Microsoft’s AI brand identity
- Creates a single foundation for future AI features
- Supports deeper integration with Microsoft Graph (Work IQ) and Copilot Agents
Copilot Logo and Branding
Yes, Microsoft love a new logo and new name.

Yes, Microsoft love a logo and new name.
As such there is a new Copilot icon, name and UI interface which will reflect Microsoft’s broader effort to unify its AI identity. (I prefer the old one tbh, plus I will need a buy a new tee-shirt now and a new Copilot key for my keyboard!!
Here is the updated design.
This visual refresh is part of Microsoft’s long‑term plan to make Copilot feel like a single, cohesive assistant rather than a collection of features spread across apps.
When is the Copilot Unifed App Coming?
Microsoft says the unified Copilot app is starting to roll out now, starting with mobile experiences. It will continue rolling out over the coming weeks (late August to September), with the global desktop rollout beginning next month.
- Mid‑August 2026: Rollout starts for mobile and web apps; early‑access opt‑in opens for Windows and Mac apps. New copilot.cloud.microsoft URL starts being used with auto redirect.
- Late August 2026: Standard rollout of the new URL redirect begins.
- Mid‑September 2026: Rollout begins for Windows and Mac apps.
