Ahead of a much bigger event next month, Microsoft has just announced the next generation of Surface devices – aligned to their broader Windows AI strategy. Thing to note is that with all devices now containing NPUs, Microsoft has officially dropped the “Copilot + PC” branding.
The headline products announced:
- New Surface Pro
- New Surface Laptop
- AI-powered Surface Mouse (yes really).
These form a clearer picture of where Microsoft is taking Windows, Copilot, and the Surface ecosystem. No new form factors, no experimental devices, just building on the core.

New Surface Pro
The new Surface Pro continues its role as Microsoft’s most adaptable device – but now with significantly more capability for AI workloads and hybrid work scenarios.
Key improvements:
- Next-generation processors designed for AI acceleration
- Longer battery life for all-day mobility
- Enhanced PixelSense display with improved brightness and colour accuracy
- Upgraded cameras tuned for AI-enhanced video calls
- Wi-Fi 7 and optional 5G for modern connectivity
This is a device built for people who move between locations, tasks, and workflows — and now it’s better equipped for the growing number of AI-powered experiences in Microsoft 365 and Windows.
New Surface Laptop
The new Surface Laptop continues Microsoft’s premium design language, but the real story is performance and efficiency.
Notable upgrades:
- AI-ready processors for faster on-device intelligence
- Longer battery life – one of the strongest Surface Laptop runtimes yet
- Sharper, brighter display with slimmer bezels
- Top-rated laptop camera (continuing Microsoft’s leadership in video quality)
- Improved thermals for sustained performance
This is the mainstream Windows AI laptop — the one most people will buy, and the one Microsoft is clearly positioning as the everyday Copilot+ PC.
“AI-Powered” Surface Mouse
The surprise of the announcement is the new “AI-powered Surface Mouse” – a peripheral designed to bring intelligent interactions directly into everyday workflows.
Reported features include:
- Gesture-aware AI (yes AI mouse)
- Adaptive sensitivity based on context
- Copilot-driven shortcuts
- Improved ergonomics and haptics
This is Microsoft experimenting (again) with AI at the peripheral level. I wish they would decide if they are really in or out in this space. I for one like branded things, I loved the Surface Headphones, Keyboard, Pens, Mice.
The AI bit is interesting and be nice to see how these play with Windows and how they tally up against peripheral giants like Logitech for examples.
Why This Matters
This launch isn’t about one device. It’s about the ecosystem.
Microsoft is clearly building toward a unified vision:

- AI-accelerated Surface hardware
- AI-enhanced peripherals (interesting)
- Support for new AI-powered workflows across Microsoft 365 and Copilot
Surface Pro and Surface Laptop continue the momentum of Copilot+ PCs (the brand name now depreciated) and Snapdragon X-series devices.
The AI-powered mouse shows Microsoft is willing to rethink even the smallest parts of the PC experience and hopefully set a new standard of what the mouse can really do!!
